Role Overview:

The IT Systems Manager is a new position provides hands-on ownership of the organisation’s server, cloud and core infrastructure estate. Working closely with the CISO and leading a team of 3, one will safeguard availability, performance and security across Windows & Linux environments, Azure and Microsoft 365, while also acting as a senior escalation point for internal support when the service desk needs extra help.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coach and upskill infrastructure & support engineers

  • Lead or contribute to migrations, upgrades and security-hardening programmes

  • Administer and optimise Windows Server and Linux estates (on-prem and cloud)

  • Maintain Azure tenant, subscriptions, resource groups and governance policies

  • Oversee Microsoft 365 services (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Intune, Teams, Purview)

  • Embed security-by-design in all BAU and project work

  • Manage security tooling: Check Point Harmony, Fortigate UTM, SentinelOne EDR, Microsoft Sentinel/SIEM

  • Collaborate with the CISO on incident response, vulnerability remediation and audit evidence

  • Support Layer 2/3 switching, routing, VPN and SD-WAN solutions

  • Monitor bandwidth, latency and capacity, ensuring resilient connectivity for HQ, branch and remote workers

  • Own Veeam backup, replication and off-site copy jobs across VMware/Hyper-V and Azure workloads

  • Manage SAN/NAS platforms, tiering and lifecycle management

  • Test and refine disaster-recovery runbooks, meeting RPO/RTO targets

  • Act as a third-line/SME escalation point for the service desk, assisting with complex incidents and major outages

  • Provide holiday and sickness cover for critical BAU support tasks

  • Document fixes and share knowledge to uplift first- and second-line capability

  • Produce technical designs, risk assessments and change requests in line with ITIL best practice

  • Foster a culture of continual service improvement and knowledge sharing

Job requirements

  • Experience leading a team

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline

  • Desirable certifications:

    1. Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator / Solutions Architect

    2. Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator Expert

    3. Check Point CCSE, Fortinet NSE 4+, VMware VCP, Veeam VMCE, ITIL v4 Foundation

  • 10+ years of enterprise infrastructure experience, with at least three in a senior or lead capacity

  • Deep expertise in Windows Server 2016–2022 and enterprise Linux distributions (RHEL/Ubuntu/SUSE)

  • Proven delivery in Microsoft Azure IaaS/PaaS (ARM/Bicep or Terraform a plus)

  • Strong administration of Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Intune)

  • Hands-on configuration of Check Point Software, Fortigate appliances and SentinelOne EDR

  • Solid networking knowledge: VLANs, VPN, BGP/OSPF, SD-WAN, QoS

  • Experience managing enterprise storage arrays and Veeam backup solutions

  • Demonstrable track record of meeting security, compliance and availability SLAs while supporting user communities
